Innovate Mound Road Project Aims to Connect for Growth
State and local leaders are pushing forward with the Innovate Mound Segment II reconstruction, focusing on rebuilding the stretch of Mound Road between 8 Mile Road and I-696. This corridor is considered vital for commerce, commuting, and manufacturing, and the city is currently pursuing federal INFRA grant funds to help close a remaining funding gap even after hundreds of millions have been pledged. The goal: reduce congestion, improve safety, and support economic activity in Warren and the surrounding region.
Four Cities Pipeline Project Launches Across Counties
Consumers Energy has broken ground on the Four Cities Metro Pipeline Project, which will modernize over eight miles of natural gas pipeline that runs through Warren, along with Royal Oak, Clawson, and Madison Heights. Serving more than 750,000 homes and businesses, this upgrade is designed to improve reliability and safety across the gas system.
Water, Sewer and Treatment Plant Upgrades Underway
Warren’s commitment to environmental and public health shows in major utility improvements. A first is the announcement of a nearly $75 million project at the Warren Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), which includes a new thermal drying/incinerator system expected to dramatically cut emissions from several pollutants. Residents should know these upgrades will increase water and sewer bills by about $6.39 a month.
Meanwhile, city officials have also approved a multi-million-dollar contract for Phase II improvements at the treatment plant’s aeration gallery, which covers work like replacing pipe headers, updating electrical and HVAC systems, and improving walkways. The contractor is Lee Contracting Inc.
Recent Crime Incidents and Community Safety Measures
Warren Police have issued public updates following two separate shootings that took place on a Sunday earlier this month. Officials are also announcing recent arrests related to crimes involving online child exploitive material and a reported “peeping tom” case. These are being handled by the Mayor’s Office, City Prosecutor and state law enforcement, including the MSP ICAC Task Force.
In response to crime trends, the police department has emphasized its ongoing programs, like “Operation Cycle Break,” aimed at preventing repeat violent incidents, improving dispatch response, and directing resources to areas with persistent crime issues.
Residents’ Role and Upcoming Meetings
Warren’s Engineering Division continues to plan and update city utilities, streets, sidewalks, storm sewers, and water mains, using GIS mapping and regularly reviewing residents’ input and private development impacts. The city’s 2027 budget has been adopted and sets out priorities for infrastructure investment and service improvement.
Residents interested in these issues can attend City Council meetings, which happen twice each month at the Warren Community Center auditorium. Agendas are posted in advance so the public can follow infrastructure, public safety, development, and finance discussions.
